Sabia da Laranjeira

🐦 The Rufous-bellied Thrush (Turdus rufiventris), or “Sabiá-laranjeira,” is a striking songbird widely regarded as Brazil’s symbol bird. Officially designated as the national bird in 2002, the Sabiá-laranjeira holds a special place in Brazilian culture, celebrated for its distinctive, melodious song that has inspired poetry, music, and folklore across the country.

Found throughout Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Bolivia, the Rufous-bellied Thrush thrives in diverse environments, from dense forests to urban gardens. This adaptable bird is recognized by its rusty-orange belly and olive-brown upper body, with a song that often rings out before dawn, especially during the breeding season. Its diet consists of fruits, insects, and small invertebrates, playing an essential role in seed dispersal and pest control within its habitat.

At Eco Lodge Itororó, the Sabiá-laranjeira is part of the daily soundscape of the Atlantic Rainforest, creating a harmonious background for guests immersed in nature.
