The up-to-450g White-eared Marmoset (Callithrix aurita) is endemic to the forests of the Brazilian Serra do Mar in the Atlantic Forest. Red listed as endangered species on most biodiversity indicators, its limited distribution, and the level of damage to their habitat play a significant role on their status.
White-eared marmosets spend most of their lives in groups and on top of the trees up to nine meters above the ground. Their babies are always twins. They feed on resins and other plant secretions, fruits, and tree gum, in addition to larvae and small insects, snakes, lizards, small frogs and bird eggs.
